Riverside Festival returns with a celebration of all things techno

Today, Riverside Festival welcomed fans back to the grounds of Glasgows iconic Riverside Museum for the opening day of thisyears Jubilee Bank Holiday weekender. Kicking off the ninth edition of the internationally celebrated electronic music festival was a fiery line-up stoked full of the best in global and homegrown techno.

Pioneering Belgian innovator Charlotte De Witte headlined, bringing day one to an explosive close with her signature fusion of maximal and ambient techno, while I Hate Models closed the Waterfront Stage with a blistering set. Earlier on in the day, fans were treated to sets from Glasgows own champions of techno and festival curators Slam, Parisian maverick Bambounou, the incendiary SPFDJ and Detroits finest Robert Hood; as well as rare live sets from 999999999 and FJAAK.

As well as the biggest and best in international techno, fans were graced with sets from some of the most exciting emerging local acts, including a live set from Kavari and a formidable B2B from Neoma and VXYX who headlined the Satellite Stage. Today marked the return of the Satellite Stage after being introduced last year as a platform dedicated to showcasing the diversity and abundance of up-and-coming homegrown talent Glasgow is renowned for.

Stuart McMillan, one half of Slam and co-festival curator said: "It felt amazing to be back. This is only the second time in the festivals history that weve held a three day party, an incredible start to summer - and festival season. As always, the crowd were absolutely brilliant and we cant wait to show them what we have in store over the rest of the weekend."

Tomorrow promises to be just as unforgettable a day, with a line-up featuring headliner Carl Cox, Joseph Capriati and a special live set from Overmono, before disco queen Roisin Murphy closes the festival on Saturday + many more.

For those who want to continue the party, organisers will be opening the doors to Riverside By Night. Slam will be taking over SWG3s warehouse complex alongside Helena Hauff and more to keep the dancefloor ablaze long after the main festival closes.
