In the News

I know its predominantly a newsletter focusing on Glasgow. However I have a special mention this week for the Greenside Hotel in Fife. A venue that has served Glasgow bands well. I have always had great nights at the place, most recent being a battle of the bands judging contest with Jim Gellatly. The venue is trying to get people in to volunteer to do flyer/poster designs also for anyone who is willing to work on the door, in order to help them fight the recession. All drinks prices have been reduced making it one of the cheapest venues on the touring circuit. You can also sign up for a membership card giving you further discounts on gig tickets in the future. I have had some great nights in the place and promoter Raegan has always looked after me and any acts ive had on there.

A reminder of this very interesting gig happening at The Old Fruitmarket on Weds night (25th) The great Rock N Roll Swindle’ showcase is a night that encourages experimentation and presents a new way of inspiring and supporting young performers. Songwriters and bands will play alongside arrangements and accompaniments by music from a twelve piece orchestra. Artists playing on the night are: This Silent Forest, Cheryl Risk, Patricia Panther and Fourth Call

The excellent Healthy Minds Collapse have been asked to support Alice In Chains at Brixton Academy on December 7th. This will be HMC’s first ever London show. The band will then take to the road with Flood of Red and The Xcerts on a full Scottish tour. As a treat from the band you can download their track ‘Best Intentions’ free from www.myspace.com/healthymindscollapse

SWG3 are holding a Fundraising Dinner on Thurs 3rd December. The evening will commence with a champagne reception followed by a private view of an exhibition by acclaimed fashion designer Pam Hogg. Guests will then be free to tour the building, before returning to the Warehouse venue for dinner and entertainment including an artists’ conversation, an auction featuring lots donated from some of Glasgow’s best retailers, boutiques and establishments and live music throughout the evening. All guests will receive an exclusively commissioned artwork produced collaboratively by Martin Boyce & Jim Lambie.
This unique evening of art, music and entertainment will showcase the huge range of activity that surrounds the building, which is home to a community of over 120 of Scotland’s most promising artists, designers, musicians and creatives. Since 2005, SWG3, a non-profit, multi-disciplinary arts space has provided studio and rehearsal spaces, regular music events as well as run one of the city’s most exciting exhibition programmes. The event will raise funds for a new phase of development in the Warehouse music and live arts venue and +44 141 Gallery. Reserve place by fri 27th Nov. Pinup Nights is now 6 years old. It’s the longest running indie night in Glasgow. Pinups gave me my first ever chance to DJ in a club (til 3am!!!) I have DJed for them a number of times since and every time I go along it’s a great night. This year they have surpassed themselves in terms of effort. The Circus and festival themes left the flying duck covered in straw and decorations. Playing live on the night will be Dirty Cuts, We’re Only Afraid of NYC, Mitchell Museum and Always Me, Me, Me. Pinup Nights takes place in the Flying Duck this coming Friday! www.pinup-nights.co.uk

Happy birthday and congratulations to them all!
