How are you?

This week I will mainly be taking in AGM’s, CELTIC CONNECTIONS, DJing a little and trying to find some sleep!

I am heading to the SMIA AGM on Thursday; there are details in the news section below. Be good to meet up with the industry tomorrow and share ideas and a wee beer too! Let me know if you are attending.

This week is the start of Celtic Connections that is running through to the 5th of February. http://www.celticconnections.com/whatson My particular highlight for this weekend is NITEWORKS at the Oran Mor.

Everyone is raving about Atlanta’s finest, Mastodon who have truly come of age with latest album, ‘The Hunter’. The record won them numerous ‘album of the year’ accolades at the tail end of 2011 – and the band even appeared on ‘Later’ with Jools Holland (the only metal band apart from Metallica to have performed on the show!).

Mastodon are back in the UK for their biggest headline run ever – and you can win a pair of tickets to their Glasgow Barrowlands show on Tuesday February 7th.

On Thursday 19 January at 7pm, The SCOTTISH MUSIC INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION will be meeting at The Universal, 57-59 Sauchiehall Lane for their AGM This will be a chance to hear more about the SMIAs three year business plan and also their plans for this year as well as the opportunity for members to be able to contribute to their planning for this year.
The event is open to members and non-members – as we are keen to get everyones views on the development of Scottish Music and our industry. YOU MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND HERE www.smia.org.uk/news/smia-agm-19th-jan
The event will be followed by a social event and a few drinks at the Universal then we will all decamp down to the opening night of the Celtic Connections Festival Club.

A very interesting gig is taking place in KELVINGROVE ART GALLERY featuring a live performance by Thomas Traux. The organiser says “The event is a Victorian inspired event - Kelvingrove is an amazing late Victorian building packed with exhibits and the event explores and has fun with the spirit, culture and some of the idiosyncrasies of the Victorians. For the event we plan to have a number of different artists doing a variety of performances installations etc” www.thomastruax.com

BREL has an amazing line-up for this year’s CELTIC CONNECTIONS. Intimate sets from MALCOLM MIDDLETON, EMMA POLLOCK & FOUND. There will be many Saturday afternoon shows plus jam sessions on Monday nights. On the Wednesdays throughout the festival, Louis from Admiral Fallow will be hosting nights. Check out www.celticconnections for listings. I am particularly excited about the Chemikal Underground night with Malcolm Middleton and rock Redbeard on the 24th
Plus their night on the 31st sees Emma Pollock and Zoey Van Goey. Also on Sunday 29th Rock Action present Remember Remember and Adam Stearns.

Celloist CALUM INGRAM Celtic Connections Apple Store Live Stage Show on the 26th has been moved forward from 7pm to 5pm but is an hour long instead of 30 minutes. Catch him later that night (with possible percussionist) at the Black Sparrow.
