How’s things?

www.glasgowmusic.co.uk is going through a major redesign and the site is looking great. I will not be putting it online until complete however Stewart is doing a great job on it and it is looking great. As part of the redesign I will be really be pushing the Youtube Channel, so please send me over your links to your videos at www.youtube.com/user/wwwglasgowmusiccouk I am looking for music, documentaries, sessions, live show, whatever.

Lots of reviews and features have been posted up. Kenny is going out to loads of shows and rocking out and writing about the results.
Murray has started a great feature that is called ’10 Questions with.’ He has started off with some bands, promoters and other blogs. Check out his questions with Tommy Hamilton, Peenko and Kev Harper

Are you organised? Can you see yourself leading a team of reviewers? Do you want to build up your press contacts and see gigs for free? Then Glasgowmusic wants to hear from you. Email over some sample work or just your interest (if you would like to be a reviewer) and email over a few words about why you think you would be great for the position.

This is a voluntary position and would be perfect for a media or music student looking to build up links with promoters, venues, PR companies, bands, agents etc.

FRIDGE MAGNETS

New Scottish upstarts Fridge Magnets have been nominated in the best Electronic category at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.

Fridge Magnets have already had the pleasure of sharing the big stage with the likes of Calvin Harris, Alex Metric, Japanese Popstars, Jaymo & Andy George and they have also played at major UK music festivals T in the Park and Rockness and they appear to be going from strength to strength with this recent nomination. Their early demos have also already featured on Radio 1 and this hotly tipped outfit from Glasgow and Aberdeen have been attracting attention from some big labels in London.

Glasgow music is proud to announce a new partnership with Edinburgh based music company, Manaseven.

We are going to be starting a regular Digital Clinic here at Glasgow Music where readers can submit their digital-related music questions be that on e-commerce, web design, marketing strategy, social media etc and the Manaseven team will do their best to answer your questions.

FOR EXAMPLE

Hi, everyone keeps telling me about another new way of promoting my music. I have registered with Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Reverbnation and Facebook but dont have the time to update them all. Any advice?

Remember the main purpose of all of these social networks is to give your band the best chance of being seen or talked about. Dont follow the latest trends but instead use the network that works best for you. I have found bandcamp to be a great tool as it allows you to embed your music on your own site as well as provides a great bunch of options for selling your downloads. The most important thing is to be aware of is where the majority of your fans are and connect with them regularly. Twitter is great as it doesnt take up much time and you can track the spreading of ideas with custom hashtag campaigns like Twin Atlantic have been doing well with #freetwinatlatic.
