Every day two people will die by suicide in Scotland. SAMH believes this is Two Too Many. That’s why we’re launching our Two Too Many campaign today.
Four times as many people die by suicide in Scotland than are killed in road traffic accidents each year, yet suicide is still considered a taboo subject and is rarely discussed, particularly among men who are many times more likely to take their own lives than women.
Watch out for our TV advert tonight on STV at 17.58 during The Chase. It’s the first of two powerful films that will screen for the next two weeks. Created by BAFTA award-winning director David Blair, the adverts depict a young man at his 21st birthday party thinking about taking his own life and a mum recalling the experience of learning her son had tried to kill himself.
The Two Too Many campaign aims to raise awareness, challenge stigma and promote SAMH’s National Programme for Suicide Prevention which helps people who are affected by suicide by providing information, services, resources and training.
