220 OPENS ITS DOORS FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR WHAT IS SET TO BE AN UNMISSABLE OPENING NIGHT
On Sunday 21st of July, Glasgow quintet Mogwai head for home soil as they prepare to perform their incredible soundtrack to Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno’s hypnotic film Zidane, A 21st Century Portrait, live in Glasgow’s newest open air events space, 220. In a major coup for the brand new venue, the band will perform the film’s score live at the screening, in one of only three performances of this type in the UK (also including the Manchester International Festival and the Barbican, as well as the Glasgow date).
Zidane, A 21st Century Portrait is a football film like no other. Using seventeen cameras the film tracks the legendary French midfielder throughout a 2005 Spanish league match at Madrid’s imposing Bernabéu Stadium – on and off the ball, in the thick of the action and on the game’s periphery. The result is a dramatic and moving depiction of one of the world’s greatest and most passionate footballers on one of sport’s grandest stages. Accompanied by a clever and intense Mogwai soundtrack there are sure to be some spine tingling moments in store for those lucky enough to be there on the night.
220 is a unique, custom built, open air events space situated at 220 Broomielaw, in the heart of Glasgow, and is set to be the location for a number of exciting events and attractions taking place over the coming months.
