Red Bull Music Academy has circumnavigated the world over the last fifteen years, and this autumn heads to Tokyo for 2014’s instalment of workshops, recording sessions, concerts and club nights. Music makers of all styles, methodologies and levels of experience are invited to apply by 18th March 2014 for a two-week academy exploring music from every angle, an experience that many alumni have described as life-changing. For all information, FAQs and to download the application form, prospective applicants should find their way to redbullmusicacademy.com/apply

To celebrate the opening of applications for this year’s event, Red Bull Music Academy announces a series of sessions with free entry across the UK. Presented in two sections, each evening features lectures and workshops, followed later by showcase performances, from musical luminaries and previous Academy participants.

Starting in Glasgow on Monday 27th January, Numbers man and RBMA Alumnus Jackmaster lectures on his career to date, and Glasgow’s infamous DJ and production duo Optimo host a technical workshop on Ableton alongside fellow Glasgow native and techno aficionado Petrichor, exploring how best to maximise live performances.

Joining on all the dates, T Williams brings first person experiences from Red Bull Music Academy 2013 in New York where he was a participant. Lecture and workshop sessions on first come first served basis. Email [email protected] to confirm your place. Look out too for details about a public lecture in London to be announced soon.

Tokyo is one of the worlds most iconic cities - and one with a truly unique and vibrant cultural landscape. From the equipment designers and game soundtracks that have had an inestimable influence on modern music, to its very own electric town (Akihabara), to grand concert halls and the many small but well-stocked record stores that are a collectors dream – Tokyo is a place for the imagination to take flight. The original urban jungle, with over 13 million inhabitants, Tokyo is a place where the ancient past and the recently imagined future are deeply entwined, and vestiges of old Edo underlie the city’s sprawl. Red Bull Music Academy will set up shop in this iconic location this October.

To gain audible insights into the goings-on at the most recent edition of the Red Bull Music Academy, take a listen to the brand new compilation Various Assets - Not For Sale, featuring 30 tracks created by participants at the Academy in New York in 2013. The CD release can be picked up in music shops, clubs and cultural institutions the world over whilst also being available for download from redbullmusicacademy.com
