HUE AND CRY RELEASE REMOTE: MAJOR TO MINOR ON MARCH 17TH

HUE AND CRY THE REMOTE WEEKEND, MARCH 2014 (GLASGOW)

The critically acclaimed album Remote released in 1988, reached number 8 in the UK charts, with sales in excess of 300,000 copies. Recorded in the famous Sigma Sound studios in Manhattan, New York the album spawned three singles, Ordinary Angel, Looking For Linda and Violently.

Set for release on March 17th and available to pre-order now Hue and Cry Remote: Major to Minor is a multi-media celebration of the original album and comes as a stunning limited edition, bespoke forty eight page book containing three CD’s and a DVD. Each book is hand signed, numbered and personalised by the band themselves and charts the formative years of Hue and Cry and the recording of the original Remote. It also includes many never seen before photographs from their own private collections, complete with scans of Pat Kane’s handwritten lyrics of the ‘Major To Minor’ songs and lyrical characters within.

Disc one - Remote: Major To Minor is a reworked version of the twelves songs on the original Remote album emotionally and meticulously recorded twenty five years on. Disc Two - Remote, the original and classic album, with all twelve tracks re-mastered specially for this release. Disc Three - Remote: B-sides, Remixes, Rarities - A collection of tracks unearthed from the vaults of Abbey Road Studios and personally selected by Pat and Greg Kane. Disc Four - (DVD) Remote: Recalled - Pat and Greg together in the studio discussing the making and recording of the original 12” vinyl version of the Remote album, track by track. Includes the bonus promo videos: - Ordinary Angel, Looking For Linda, Sweet Invisibility, Violently (Your Words Hit Me).

Greg Kane on the new recording: “We didn’t just want to ‘re-master’ the original, we wanted to re-write and re-record the songs. One day in the studio whilst working on ‘Looking For Linda’ we played the music using relative major and minor chords, this technique ‘darkened’ the mood of the song and we realised this way of playing would work for all the songs.”
Pat Kane adds: “The original lyrics were a comment on my life and times during that period combined with imaginary characters. I attacked the new lyrics in the same way with personal observation of where I am now and had great fun updating the fictional characters.”

To coincide with the release, Hue and Cry will be appearing at the o2, ABC (Glasgow) for the Hue and Cry Remote Weekend. Opening Friday, March 14th Pat and Greg will perform an intimate ‘stripped back’ performance of the album Bitter Suite, in its full entirety. The brothers will be joined on stage by musicians from their current line-up, with a special guest appearance by violinist George Futter, who appeared on the original recording of Bitter Suite. The evening will conclude with the brothers performing unrehearsed requests from the audience.

On Saturday, March 15th the brothers will line up with their full-on 8 piece band, to perform the original recording of Remote from start to finish. This performance is a must see for any Hue and Cry fan and also promises a selection of classic Hue and Cry tracks, to close what is set to be an extraordinary weekend.
