After a sold out American tour, The Black Keys have extended their Turn Blue World Tour throughout Europe in 2015. Guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney deliver a high energy concert while still retaining their garage rock blues roots. To date, they have won seven Grammy Awards with 12 nominations and a BRIT Award for Best International Group.
Since their appearance on the indie rock scene in 2002, The Black Keys have produced eight studio albums and have toured nearly non-stop. Originally, the duo met while attending high school in Akron, Ohio. Auerbach was the popular captain of the soccer team while
Carney was a bit of a social outcast. While attending the university, Auerbach wanted to record a demo to play in bigger clubs, and he asked Carney to help him record. however, since the rest of the band didnt show, Auerbach and Carney formed their own group. Their debut album, ‘The Big Come Up’ in 2002, through 2004’s ‘Rubber Factory’ earned them a rabid fan base and multiple tour spots.
In 2006, The Black Keys made their first major record release with Nonesuch entitled ‘Magic Potion’. A year after the album had been released, they were slated to join Danger Mouse for an Ike Turner comeback record,
but the project was cancelled. The record never happened, but Danger Mouse stayed on to produce their ‘Attack & Release’. For the first time, The Black Keys had access to other instruments and musicians to build their unique sound. Eventually, bassist Richard Swift and keyboardist John Clement Wood would become a standard part of their tour.
After a huge success of their platinum album, ‘El Camino’, the band took a much needed break. At the time, Auerbach was going through a divorce, and both musicians were exhausted from the road. Their original recording sessions for an eighth album lead to a darker, brooding sound. After a short hiatus, the Black Keys teamed up once again with Danger Mouse to produce and write ‘Turn Blue’. Released in May 2014, it debuting at number one in the United States and Australia. ‘Turn Blue’ exhibits The Black Keys’ most psychedelic and soulful rock album yet. Singles like ‘In Time’ showcase their stomp-filled soul while
‘Bullet in the Brain’ displays a psychedelic country sound. Fever’, perhaps their most popular album single, highlights their new emotional music while still having powerful lyrics. The album has already gone gold in the United Kingdom and Canada. Their Turn Blue World Tour was announced on their YouTube page with a satire state of the union address.
With such an extensive tour, it might be a while before we see the next album. Auerbach and Carney have hinted at a possible hiatus after their world tour. Check out the electric show before they stop to have kids.
