The Swans live review, gig news and more

Autumn is quickly turning into the cold dark winter we have all come to expect but all is not lost as the music scene is as alive and vibrant as always. And all the big guns are out on tour to snaffle your hard earned cash in the lead up to Christmas. First up today is The Swans live at Oran Mor

Having been around the block and then some, the NYC rabble rousers brought their archaic noise to the somewhat diminutive surroundings of the west ends Oran Mor. Lets get any negativity out of the way first. The venue is and was too small to host such a band. Its not a bad venue by any stretch of the imagination, I just felt personally that a larger venue would be more suitable for that level of noise. Sold out (which is great) but to the point of overcrowding.

Dont get me wrong, the aforementioned points dont detract from the gig itself. The band blistered through an over 30yr career set list spanning 14 albums. It was loud. It was very very loud. Which added to the ambience , although ambience maybe the wrong terminology as this was no shoe gazing dreamscape. It was raw, vivacious and even if it was their last stop on tour, energetic

With The Glowing Man, their most recent album, doing decent rounds with the critics and punters, it was a decent time to catch them. It was exceptional value for money too with a near 2.5 hour set. Go and see them when they undoubtedly play a bigger venue next time they roll up to Glasgow town but take earplugs. Maybe take a couple of pairs
