Festivals, Gig Listings, BBC6 and more

Hey guys, hows it going? Spring is here and that means festival time! Despite our draconian prices for putting on festivals and the policing therein, we still have plenty of stuff on over the summer. We kick off down at the Borders with Eden

EDEN Festival - 8th-12th June - Raehill Meadows - Dumfries & Galloway.

What can I say that I didnt cover when I attended the year before last. Exceptionally friendly, exceptionally policed and organised and, as much as a cliche as it is, theres something for everyone. Boney M, So Solid Crew, Jungle, Harri & Domenic, Admiral Fallow, 2ManyDjs (!), Gogol Bordello, Alabama 3 amongst 300 others over 8 stages. It has a family feel to proceedings which will appeal to many but there is plenty more if you are going as part of a group of friends. Tickets are close to selling out so grab yours here. http://www.edenfestival.co.uk

TRNSMT - 7th-9th July - Glasgow Green

With T In The Park taking an unknown hiatus, DF decide to bring the big guns to the city centre. Couldnt have picked a better spot than Glasgow Green in my eyes - easily accessible, plenty to do around the area and hopefully the weather wont be the wash out that often plagues T. Radiohead, Rag n Bone Man, London Grammar and home favourites Belle & Sebastian lead the Friday. Kasabian, The Kooks, Catfish and The Bottleman, George Ezra, Stormzy and Circa Waves take the Saturday and The 1975, 2 Door Cinema Club, Twin Atlantic, Blossoms and The View lead a mainly homegrown Sunday. Tickets can still be purchased from www.trnsmtfest.com/

ELECTRIC FROG & PRESSURE -27th/28th May 100 Pointhouse Place - Glasgow

Set around the visually stunning Riverside Museum, the boys and girls bring the finest and I mean the finest electronic line up in Scotland, if not, The UK. Having attended many times, its a phenomenal weekend and is better organised each year. This year we have Sven Vath, Detroit Swindle, George Fitzgerald, Jackmaster, Nina Kraviz, Derrick Carter, Loco Dice, Slam, Groove Armada (DJ set) plus so much more. Great line up as you can see and generally dafty free so thats a bonus. Get your tickets at www.riversidefestivalglasgow.com

Electric Fields - Drumlanrig Castle, Dumfries & Galloway - 1st/2nd September.

My festival of choice last year returns with a bigger bolder line up which is sure to attract more attention. Having covered it just a few months ago, I remarked I had never seen such a well put together wee festival with such friendly stewards. Hopefully and probably they have lost none of that charm. Frightened Rabbit, Dizzee Rascal, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Glass Animals, Jackmaster, Kate Tempest and British Sea Power lead the way with much more to follow. WEEKEND REVIEW - BBC6 MUSIC FESTIVAL - VARIOUS VENUES - GLASGOW

The big boys from BBC6 decided to roll into town with their annual eclectic get together. Quite a coup for the city and St Lukes, Barrowlands, The 02 , SWG3, The Subby and others all benefited from it. Depeche Mode, Ride, Bonobo (who was great btw), Cate Le Bon (also great at St Lukes) , Honeyblood, Goldfrapp, King Creosote, James Lavelle and Sleaford Mods amongst so many many others graced the stages over the aforementioned venues. Tickets were hard to come by and the sound from some Ive heard wasnt the best but it was generally a well received weekend and they had the weather to boot. As Ive said, a great coup both for the prestige and the financial boost for the city.

Thats it for this weeks news, Ill be a bit more active on here as things have calmed down somewhat so if there is anything you want featured or reviewed then hit me up at paul@glasgowmusic or message the Facebook page. Also always on the lookout for reviewers and photographers so feel free to get involved if you so wish to.
