SAMA presents HANG - full programme announced


Scotlands first ever grime and hip hop music conference launches this July, a new event to inspire and empower members of Scotlands hip hop and grime communities launches this summer, helped by some of the most vital names in the scene.

1115 -1200 Panel 1 - Scotland: The Story So Far

Ransom FA (Artist), Darren McGarvey (Artist, Author), Shaheeda Sinkler (Nova), chaired by Arusa Qureshi (Author & Journalist).

Exploring the cultures of hip hop, and grime in Scotland.



1215 - 1300 Workshop 1 - Breakdancing

An insight to breakdancing culture by TheDimeStop (Tesko, Shelltoe Mel).



1300 - 1400 Panel 2 - On Air - Breaking into radio

Aarti Joshi (Go Radio & Kona Music (Manager: The Lafontaines), Delaina Sepko (Sunny Govan / Beats & Breaks), Vic Galloway (BBC Radio Scotland), chaired by Ben Wynter (AIM/Unstoppable Music Group).

This panel will explore opportunities for artists to get their music played across different radio networks, and what the DJs and producers behind the scenes look for.



1415 - 1430 Spoken Word & Acapella Performances - SWG3

1500 - 1600 Panel 3 - Platforms, Promotion, & Online Artist Development

Henca Maduro (New Skool Rules Netherlands), Robin Murray (Clash Magazine), Sami Omar (Up2standard). Chaired by by Alana Hepburn (SAMA).

The expert panel will discuss what platforms support grime and hip-hop and offer tips to pitch yourself.



1600 - 1700 Panel 4 - How to monetize your art.

Zander Whitehead (Fliptrix/High Focus Records), Susan Montgomery (23rd Precinct Music Publishing), Kwame Safo (PRS Foundation/Power Up), chaired by Suzanne Miller (Help Musicians).

This panel will explore different income streams available to artists from touring, publishing, funding and more.



1700 - 1800 Panel 5 - Hip Hops multifaceted role in communities

Karen Dunbar (Comedian), Jill Brown (Conviction Records), Donna Boyd (Making Recovery Visible), Khaleda Noon (Intercultural Youth Scotland), chaired by Mark McGhee (Youcallthatradio?).

The group will discuss how hip hop and spoken word informs their own approaches to community engagement, from song-writing workshops in prisons, to hosting dry club nights, collaborative performances with refugees, and music education, as well as how hip hop as its own diverse community provides support and representation for marginalised individuals and groups.



1745 - 1815 - DJ Workshop: Old Skool VS New Skool

Scottish artists DIJA and Steg G are here to offer tips and get you started in the world of DJing.


1900 - 2000 - In Conversation

Tiffany Calver (BBC Radio 1xtra/Power Up) with Shereen Cutkelvin (BBC Introducing).
Tiffany discusses her invigorating career from starting out blogging with MTV and SB:TV, DJing at clubs nights across UK to being the first female host of BBC 1xtras The Rap Show.



2015 - 2200 - Music Showcase @ SWG3, Glasgow

Bemz, India Ros3, mISTAh bOhzE, NOVA.
Plus two artists from the open call.



Tickets are available from 9am on Wednesday 9th June from Eventbrite.

Day passes for the online activities are free, and tickets to attend the socially-distanced evening showcase are £5 plus booking fee.
