Featured Photo Gallery / Review - Alter Bridge at OVO Hydro, Glasgow 6th December 2022

My favourite gig of all time happened to be in the year 2010, where former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash was performing with a certain singer called Myles Kennedy at the old Picturehouse in Edinburgh. It was a amazing gig with the usual GNR classics played like Night-Train, Sweet Child Of Mine and Paradise City, with Kennedys powerful vocals almost equalling that with Axl Roses as well as Slashs incredible guitar solos, it remains one of the most memorable nights of my 39 year old life, sadly today the venue where that gig took place is now a Wetherspoons run super pub.

12 years later, Myles Kennedys own band Alter Bridge was due to play a sold out gig in Glasgows premier music venue, the OVO Hydro as part of their Pawns and Kings Tour, would it be as memorable as that fateful night in Edinburgh?, we were about to find out.

There were 2 support acts on the night, with the night beginning with a set from MMVH, which is fronted by the son of the late great Eddie Van Halen, they gave the early comers a treat by playing some songs from their 2021 album "Mammoth WVH".

Pennsylvania based Halestorm was next up, a band known for their constant touring and Lzzy Hales unique screaming voice, it was all to hear and see during this set and the band were killing it during their set, playing the likes of Bombshell, Mine and Familiar Taste Of Poison. "Glasgow we love you" said Lzzy to the jubiliant crowd as their set finished with I miss a Misery.

It was time for Alter Bridge and they took the full capacity Hydro down, the whole place was jumping from start to finish and the jubilant crowd were singing along despite the loud music. Alter Bridge played their all time classics such as Blackbird, Open Your Eyes, The Other Side, Addicted To Pain, an acoustic version of In Loving Memory as well as some of new material like Silver Tongue from Pawns and Kings.

With loud riffing guitars, banding drums, powerful vocals and confetti going off, this was a typical night of rock music at the OVO Hydro and the crowd were drinking the atmosphere in. Myles Kennedy and his band delivered a great night of great music before the run up to the festive season, they were on top form throughout the show.

It certainly wont top the gig with Slash in Edinburgh, not a lot of concerts come close to that almost perfect night, but this was still a concert to remember and everybody left the venue satisfied.
