Herbie May - Debut Single + Glasgow Show with XGenerationX

The Lounge Society guitarist Herbie May has announced a record and a series of solo gigs supporting XGENERATIONX as they tour the UK in November.

Herbies solo sound is stripped down, raw and emotionally intelligent - think Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett, but also older artists: Its Lou Reed meets Orange Juice! squealed someone, and theyre maybe not wrong. You can also hear influences as varied as The The, Gram Parsons and Jackson C Frank in the mix although this music is also completely its own thing. Herbie releases his debut double A side single Bleeding/Shoelaces (Produced by legendary producer of the Strokes Gordon Raphael) to coincide with the tour.

Ive spent 18 months not drinking, not taking any substances, not going out very much. Just reading and thinking and trying to make sense of the way were forced to exist now. These songs are the first results of that process. And then I got this chance to play them live. And its a terrifying idea but also absolutely necessary."

Herbie is keen to stress that this is in no way the end of The Lounge Society.
"Weve been writing and recording for a second album and have a couple of songs coming out more or less imminently. Weve been recording with Jolyon Thomas at The Libertines studio (The Albion Rooms) and I think that as a band were tighter and that when we get back out there were going to blow a few minds. And the boys have been completely behind me doing my own stuff. I wouldnt do it otherwise."

The Lounge Society came to prominence during the pandemic with the single Generation Game which was followed by EP Silk for the Starving and the album Tired of Liberty all produced by the legendary Dan Carey and released on Careys label Speedy Wunderground.

The Herbies solo single is released on new label Red Licorice (distributed by Code 7) on November 7

The XGENERATIONX tour – a band led by original Generation X drummer Mark Laff and featuring Steve Norman from Spandau Ballet as well as Elizabeth Westwood on vocals – begins on Tuesday November 11.
