Slash, Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators - OVO Hydro 3rd April 2024

Slash returns and rocks the Hydro

One of my favourite gigs of all time if not THEE favourite gig of all time was when Slash performed alongside Myles Kennedy at the old HMV Picturehouse in Edinburgh on July, 2010. The gig had everything, from Guns N Roses covers to amazing guitar solos from Slash himself. The place was a sweatbox, with the audience jumping throughout the set, every attendee got a real treat on the night and is a gig still fondly remembered.

Fast forward 14 years and Slash has since reconciled with his old bandmate Axl Rose after a long feud and has re-joined Guns N Roses, and the HMV Picturehouse, where that memorable gig took place, is now a Wetherspoons owned super-pub.

But Slashs career outside GNR continues, and him, Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators return to Scotland to perform a live gig once more, this time in Glasgows OVO Hydro, with support coming from Mammoth WVH, featuring Van Halens son as the frontman.

As the lights dimmed and anticipation filled the air, Slash emerged with that signature appearance of his, wearing his top hat and wielding his legendary Gibson Les Paul. From the moment he struck the first chord, the crowd was enraptured, swept away by the sheer power and magnetism of his presence.

The setlist mostly comprised of original material, songs like "The River is Rising", "Too Far Gone", "Spirit Love", "Cest La Vie" and "Doctor Alibi" were all performed as well as a few covers on the night, the most surprising was a cover of Elton Johns "Rocketman" towards the end of the show. Lets not forget Slashs formidable solo during the performance of "Wicked Stone", which got the biggest cheer on the night.

Myles Kennedys powerhouse vocals added another layer of depth to the music, complementing Slashs guitar wizardry with soul-stirring intensity. Together with The Conspirators, they formed a tight-knit unit that exuded chemistry and camaraderie, elevating each song to new heights. Slashs mastery of the guitar was also on full display, as he effortlessly recreated the iconic riffs that has become synonymous with rock history.

Some people may argue that the atmosphere on the night was a bit flat at times, especially compared to that infamous gig at the Picturehouse, but Slash had once again proven why he is a true rock icon, he and his team left the stage after a performance that will be remembered for years to come.
