"It's not the Barras - though it is very nice here"

"Its not the Barras - though it is very nice here" Simon Fowler quipped as Ocean Colour Scene took the stage at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Bandstand last night. The band, with a storied history and a long-standing love affair with Glasgow, delivered a memorable performance that highlighted both their enduring appeal and their deep connection to the city.

From the start, the band immediately set a nostalgic tone, reminding the audience of their timeless sound. Fowlers voice, though a bit strained at the start, found its strength before "Robin Hood," bolstered by the enthusiastic crowd. The audience's support seemed to rejuvenate Fowler, bringing back the old Simon everyone cherished.

The evening was also marked by the presence of Craddock's son, who impressed on keys and occasionally on backing guitar, adding a fresh dynamic to the band's sound. Additionally, Raymond Meade from The Ronelles, now a permanent member of OCS, received a warm welcome back in his home city, further cementing the bands bond with Glasgow.

The setlist was a perfect mix of classics and deeper cuts, with "To the Sea" showcasing Fowler's pure, evocative vocals. The transition from "Robin Hood" into a surprise rendition of Oasiss "Live Forever" was a standout moment, igniting a singalong that resonated throughout the bandstand. This was right after the band had covered The Beatles "Day Tripper."

A particularly electrifying moment came with "Riverboat Song," where the riff echoed the raw energy of AC/DC at their best, sending waves of excitement through the crowd. The night continued to build on this high, each song reinforcing the bands legacy and the audiences adoration.

As the night drew to a close, Fowler asked the crowd if they should return to Glasgow, receiving a resounding unanimous yes. The band's connection with the city was palpable, their performance a testament to their enduring appeal and the deep affection their fans hold for them.
