Stereophonics - Bellahouston Park 28th June 2025

Timeless rock anthems met the unparalleled energy of a Glasgow crowd

The sun was out, which is very rare for Glasgow and Scotland as a whole, what isnt so rare is a electric atmosphere at an outdoor Glasgow gig. That came from Bellahouston Park as Welsh rock titans Stereophonics arrived to perform as part of their "Stadium Anthems Summer 25" tour, Kelly Jones and co. delivered a performance that proved why, after 3 decades, they remain one of the countries most beloved live acts.

The set started with "The Bartender and the Thief", setting the tone for a night of pure rock n roll energy. Kelly Jones, ever the charismatic frontman with that signature voice of his, immediately connected with the audience, saying that the band chose Glasgow over Glastonbury, which received a positive response from the revellers.

Classics like "Vegas Two Times" and "Just Looking" followed and had the crowd singing every word, while the anthemic "Have A Nice Day" transformed Bellahouston into a sea of swaying arms and voices. Two people in the audience held up a Welsh flag to show their appreciation towards the legendary act from Cymru.

The set wasnt completely the bands most memorable pieces, it included a teaser of their forthcoming 2025 album "Make em Laugh, Make em Cry, Make em Wait," seamlessly integrated into the set, demonstrating that Stereophonics are still crafting relevant and engaging material. "Theres Always Gonna Be Something," a new single, held its own amongst the established classics.

The bands performance was energetic as you would expect, Richard Jones on bass, Adam Zindani on guitar, and Jamie Morrison on drums provided a formidable backbone, allowing Kelly Jones to command the stage with his well known cool and no-bullshit persona. Moments like the acoustic rendition of "Maybe Tomorrow," its melancholic beauty soaring over the park, were truly special, another highlight was the pink balloons that flew over the crowd during the performance of "Cest La Vie", I took a "direct hit" with one.

After the encore the band returned to play the memorable Mike dAbo cover "Handbags and Gladrags", the more obscure "Traffic" and finishing the set with the iconic "Dakota", the night concluded and the crowds left a confetti covered Bellahouston.

Despite a fight that apparently happened at the VIP area towards the end of the gig, it was a night to remember, timeless rock anthems met the unparalleled energy of a Glasgow crowd, it left everyone feeling a state of satisfaction and a renewed appreciation for one of Britains finest bands.

Diolch yn Fawr, until next time boyos.
